Manuel Carlos Vargas Sr, of Arkansas City, died on Sunday, September 13, 2015 at the age of 61.

Manuel was born the son of Cruz and Susie (Tapia) Vargas on Saturday, December 5, 1953 in Winfield. Following high school, he received technical college training and then began his work career. He has been a mechanical inspector for GE for nearly 15 years.

On January 25, 1974, Manuel and Catherine Vargas were united in marriage in Winfield. Together they celebrated 35 years of marriage before her passing in 2009.

Survivors include his son, Manuel Carlos Vargas Jr. (Stacy Smith); daughter, Natalie Vargas (Scott Logsdon); daughter, Sonya Mosier (Roger) all of Arkansas City; grandchildren: Mariah Rippe (David), Macen Vargas, Jordyn Logsdon, Justis Mosier, Zerrick Vargas, Spencer Mosier, Zackry Logsdon, Brendetta Smith, Makenzie Smith and Brylan Smith; father, Cruz Vargas of Wichita; siblings: Mary Green, Richard Vargas, Paul Vargas, Tommy Vargas, Mike Vargas and Nina Smith.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Susie Vargas and wife, Catherine Vargas.

Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held at 7 p.m., Friday, September 18, 2015 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Arkansas City, Kansas.

Funeral Mass for Manuel will begin at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 19, 2015 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Arkansas City

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place.

Private interment will be held at a later date in Prairie Lawn Cemetery, Wellington.

A memorial fund has been established in his loving memory to the American Cancer Society. Contributions may be mailed or left with the funeral home.
